The path of the Segonzano Pyramids
<p>A route that takes us face to face with the "òmeni de Segonzan", a rare and fascinating geological phenomenon</p>
<p>This route takes us to discover one of the most fascinating geological phenomena of Trentino: the earth pyramids of Segonzano, spectacular “natural sculptures” created by the washing away of rainwater on ancient deposits of materials left by glaciers. When one of the porphyry boulders contained in the deposits is exposed due to erosion, it may act as a “roof” protecting the material underneath from the beating rain, thus giving rise to the most unique type of pyramid, the one with the “hat”. The possible fall of the stone condemns the pyramid to rapid destruction. The Pyramids, locally called the òmeni (men) de Segonzan, are therefore an ephemeral phenomenon.</p>
