The pastures of the valley of flowers

Climb to Malga Sass in Valfloriana and to the wonderful Pradi da le fior, a flowery panoramic balcony

This itinerary takes us to Malga Sass, the highest mountain hut in our territory. Open from June to September with the possibility of eating and staying overnight, the hut is in a splendid position, surrounded by meadows, woods of Norway spruce, larch, and Swiss stone pine with high mountains behind it crowning the view.

The proposed itinerary starts from the locality Bait del Manz, which can be reached by car in a few minutes after passing the hamlet of Sicina, the highest hamlet of the Municipality of Valfloriana. After parking the car, follow for a stretch the paved road that goes up towards the hut. After a couple of km, take the dirt road on the left that leads to Malga Coston, a historic alpine pasture building dating back to the early 1800s and today renovated.

From here continue, always by dirt road and forest path until reaching Malga Sass.

After refreshing at Malga Sass, continue the itinerary towards the “Pradi da le Fior” following the flat road that starts near the hut. This alpine pasture offers an exceptional view over Val di Fiemme, from the villages of Le Ville (Carano, Daiano, Varena) to Corno Nero and Pala di Santa. Situated at 2000 meters, it is a true flowery balcony, rich in flowers and surrounded by rhododendrons, inviting a pause.

To return to our starting point, take the forest path on the left of Pradi da le Fior, descending again to Malga Coston. Then return, following the outward route first on forest road and then on paved road, to the starting point of our excursion.
