The Ancient Fruit Route
A route suitable for everyone looking for the many ancient fruit trees along the Via Nova connecting Pieve (Primiero San Martino di Castrozza) with Passo Gobbera. A fun treasure hunt immersed in nature, just a few kilometers from the towns of Primiero and near the villages of Mezzano and Imer.

The Ancient Fruit Route was born from an idea by Maurizio Gaio and Slow Food Primiero, in collaboration with the Comunità di Valle. The route largely follows the already existing Via Nova, which connects Pieve to Passo Gobbera with some deviations from the main route for possible access from Imer and Mezzano. The area is indeed rich in many ancient fruit trees (pear, apple, cherry, etc.). Over 40 are cataloged in this itinerary, all indicated on the map created by Maurizio (see images).

The route was conceived with the intention of raising awareness among hikers about the presence of these often “forgotten” trees, which represent an important testimony of biodiversity and the use that was made in the past of these sunny mid-altitude zones.

In-depth information sheets, accessible via QR codes, provide additional information on the species of fruit trees along the route.
