Stage 5 Dolomiti Trek King - The soul of the Pale Mountains

<p>This is the king of trekking in Val di Fassa, among the most exciting mountains in the world. The fifth stage will take you from Lake Antermoia to Gardeccia.</p>

<p>From the Antermoia Refuge, path no. 584 crosses the homonymous pass and then runs along the western side of the Catinaccio d'Antermoia up to Passo Principe and its refuge. Continue south; after an initial steep section, the trail descends along the Vaiolet Valley. Here you reach the Vaiolet and Preuss refuges, from which you can see the legendary Torri del Vaiolet and the east face of the Catinaccio. Legendary mountains where pioneers of mountaineering such as Paul Preuss and Tita Piaz undertook their feats destined to remain engraved in history and rock. Now take path no. 546 towards Gardeccia.</p> <p>Detour: from the Vaiolet Refuge, about an hour’s walk away, reach the Re Alberto I Refuge (sign no. 542). Adding another twenty minutes of walking brings you to the Passo Santner Refuge, which offers breathtaking views over Latemar, Corno Nero and Corno Bianco, Ortles, Brenta, and up to the Austrian and Swiss Alps. You return along the same path.</p>
