Serrada - Baita Tonda
Route on packed snow along the military road from Serrada up to Forte Dosso delle Somme with a detour to Rifugio Baita Tonda. During winter the route is packed, so it is excellent for winter trekking. You can also start at loc. Cogola di Serrada (convenient parking) taking the first section along the SAT 136 trail or following the easy ski slope. Note the required time is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The starting point of the route is at loc. Roccolo di Serrada, here you can find some parking spaces but it is better to park in Serrada and reach the starting point along the strada delle colonie (a paved road connecting the town center with this location). Alternatively, you can park at the start of the Serrada chairlift or at loc. Cogola (convenient parking) and skip the first part of the military road by going up the easy ski slope. Regardless of the starting point, you will encounter a route immersed in nature with sections of forest and open areas. Since it is a military road from the First World War, the route ascends with a medium-easy slope allowing a great hike. During winter the route is packed by a snowcat, making the surface a pleasant hard layer of snow. Snowshoes are not essential but (depending on the temperature) mountain boots are sufficient. The route is also enjoyable with alpine skis. Almost arriving at Forte Dosso delle Somme, you can choose whether to reach the fort or cover the last kilometer that separates you from Rifugio Baita Tonda. From the refuge you can descend to the starting point along SAT 136 trail or via the packed route along the ski slope. The travel time to Rifugio Baita Tonda ranges between 1 hour and 30 minutes and 2 hours. From the refuge, Serrada is reached in 30 minutes.
