Serrada - Baita Tonda

A beaten snow route along the military road from Serrada up to Forte Dosso delle Somme with a diversion to the Baita Tonda hut. During the winter, the route is groomed so it is excellent for winter trekking. You can also start from loc. Cogola di Serrada (convenient car park), taking the first part along the SAT 136 path or following the easy ski slope. Attention: the time required is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The starting point of the route is in loc. Roccolo di Serrada, where you can find some car parks, but it is better to park in Serrada and reach the starting point along the colonie road (a small asphalted road that connects the centre of the village with this locality). Alternatively, you can park at the start of the Serrada chairlift or in loc. Cogola (convenient car parks) and skip the first part of the military road, going up the easy ski slope. Regardless of your starting point, a route through nature awaits you, with forest and open stretches. As this is a military road from the First World War, the route climbs at an easy to medium gradient, which makes for excellent excusion. During the winter, the route is beaten with the snowcat, so the ground becomes a nice hard layer of snow. Snowshoes are not essential, but (temperatures permitting) hiking boots are sufficient. The route is also pleasant with touring skis. Almost at Forte Dosso delle Somme, you can choose whether to reach the fort or walk the last kilometre to the Baita Tonda Refuge. From the mountain hut you can descend to the starting point along the SAT 136 path or along the beaten path along the ski slope. The walking time to the Baita Tonda Refuge is between 1 hour and 30 minutes and 2 hours. From the hut, it takes 30 minutes to reach Serrada.
