SAT / E137 - Serrada - Forra del Lupo - Forte Dosso delle Somme

It is one of the thematic routes dedicated to the Great War (1914-1918), among the most beautiful and exciting in Trentino. The route retraces the trenches dug by the Austro-Hungarians.

The route leads the hiker into a gorge – the Forra – between high rock walls, where the Austro-Hungarians dug trenches and deep shelters. Then the beautiful panoramas of the upper Terragnolo valley, the Borcola pass, and the imposing Pasubio mountain massif. The long trench – for which the name Forra del Lupo or Wolfsschlucht used during the war has been kept – was rediscovered in 2014: a group of volunteers recognized the area in some paintings by Albin Egger and in photos of an Austro-Hungarian officer, Ludwig Fasser, and began organizing its recovery. Today, after years of work (the route is certainly one of the most interesting in the Alpe Cimbra. At the end of the gorge, you reach the Caserme locality, where the buildings that hosted the fort garrison stood; the path continues initially inside a trench and then continues through the meadows below Forte Dosso delle Sommo (1670 m, in German Werk Serrada).
