San Giovanni - Falasorni
This hike is an easy and well-marked loop around San Giovanni above the town of Mezzano. It offers a splendid view of the Feltrine Peaks and the grassy plateau of San Giovanni located behind Mount Cordognè.
The location presents itself as idyllic and wonderful for an excursion immersed in nature and features as protagonist the hill that hosts the church of San Giovanni. Built at the beginning of the sixteenth century by the will of the Scopoli family, it remained their property until the eighteenth century, after which it was donated to the community of Mezzano. The little church was built to allow charcoal burners and farmers, who remained working in the area for several months, to have a convenient place of worship for the Sunday mass. The church has always been the destination of a well-attended procession, which started from Mezzano on the patron saint's day, June 24 (still today on June 24, the feast of St. John the Baptist, Mass is celebrated at the end of a long procession). Returning to the paved road, continue to the fork of Falasorni at 1249 m, where the homonymous and characteristic crucifix stands. From here take the beautiful path on the right along the Cordognè ridge, which without great difficulty leads to the top of the ridge at 1314 m, offering magnificent views of the Pale di San Martino and the Feltrine Peaks, as well as the San Giovanni meadows just below us. The ridge trail ends just below the fork of Poit.
