Passo San Pellegrino - Fuciade - Val Fredda - Malga Boer - Passo San Pellegrino

The hike offers an alternative to the classic high-altitude walk, discovering the Fuciade basin from another perspective and crossing into Val Fredda (Falcade), which is less known but equally fascinating and interesting from a geological point of view.

From Moena, reach Passo San Pellegrino. Descend about 200 metres on the other side and, at a ski trail overpass, enter left on the paved road leading to the car park near Hotel Miralago. From here, a comfortable mostly flat walk leads to the Fuciade basin, a spectacular limestone amphitheatre dominated by majestic peaks (Sas de l'Om, Jigolé, Sas de Valfreida), particularly interesting botanically for the presence of plants and flowers partly exclusive to this area. Pass the Fuciade huts, cross the stream, climb a short ramp and follow the wide track along Pra Gran. Now follow path no. 670 to Forca Rossa, which branches to the left. Climb the ridge of Monte Le Saline that separates Fuciade from Val Fredda. From here the panorama is truly exceptional. A continuous up and down, which cuts across the head of the valley, takes you to a hollow framed by the imposing mass of Sas de Valfreida. At the fork, leave path no. 670 to follow no. 694. Cross the stream. Pass a nice crucifix with a unique view of the Cime di Focobon, Monte Mulaz and the Pale di San Martino. Now the trail widens again, is unpaved and runs on the opposite side of the valley. Follow the stream from above losing altitude quickly (in some sections the slope is very steep). Ignore forks for Malga Bosch Brusà and Malga ai Lach and reach the first huts on the banks of the stream. Ford the watercourse. The dirt road crosses the entire valley, dotted with "Casoni", the typical wooden huts once used by shepherds. The valley is a small gem set among cathedrals of limestone and volcanic rock. Near the last hut, a path branches off to the right to reach, in a few minutes, the below Rifugio Flora Alpina. Continue on the forest road and enter a beautiful larch forest. The walk ends on a paved road open to traffic. Go right and follow it until you reach Malga Boer. To the right, take the path that reconnects you to the Fuciade road.
