Masi Verniana Bait de Mezol
Mountain tour
Masi Verniana Bait de Mezol
Hiking through woods, pastures, and farmhouses along trails and grassy roads with an incredible view of some of the most imposing peaks of Val di Sole. Elevation gain: 750m – Distance: 15km.
After parking the car near the Church of St. Stephen, head towards the small church of St. Catherine and the Dazi area. From here, the steep path begins in the direction of Masi di Verniana, crossing the forest road several times. Once you reach the typical farmhouses of Verniana (1,712m), you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Presanella Peak. Continue along the dirt road nestled between green pastures that leads to the ruins of Malga Verniana (1,844m). Shortly before, turn left, cross the San Leonardo stream over a small bridge, and follow a winding path through the dense forest until you reach the forest road where signs for Bait de Mezol can be found, about twenty minutes away. This shelter is used by hunters and shepherds.
Slightly to the left, below this characteristic mountain hut, also known as Bait del Vedeler (1,969m), the descent begins. The path makes a hairpin turn and intersects the dirt road, which you take to the left, leading to Masi di Strino (1,762m). Just beyond the farmhouses, among flowering meadows and marmot burrows, turn left and descend towards the bridge below to reach the grassy road that once connected to the Tonale Pass. Without crossing the bridge, turn left and descend through forests of red spruce and fragrant flowers to Vermiglio, walking parallel to the main road below. The constantly descending dirt road takes you back to the Dazi area, completing the roughly 15km loop.

4o
