On the trail of shepherds at the entrance of Val Freida

Land of pastures, larch woods and shelters, Passo San Pellegrino was a pass connecting Germany to the port of Venice at the time of the Crusades.

From Malga Boer to Rifugio Flora Alpina, at the entrance of Val Freida, in the territory of Falcade, to reach the borders of Fassa. Names not to be confused. Lands of meadows, pastures, mountain huts, and cottages, or better, casoni. The history here is important: nothing you see was born by chance. Neither toponymy, nor geology, nor open spaces, surrounded by Col Margherita, Mulaz, Focobon and always the queen, Marmolada, enriched by ancient barns restored at the beginning of the last century that embroider the view. And so San Pellegrino takes its name from the friars of the Order of San Pellegrino delle Alpi who built a hospice for travelers with an annexed chapel on the pass, razed to the ground during the Great War. While you walk, imagine what pedestrians and visitors saw on foot over the centuries and be thankful for all they managed to preserve.
