Lavarone Green Land - Drago Vaia - Departure from Frazione Bertoldi

When the storm comes, you can only wait for it to end. Then you can choose how to react. Marco Martalar, a world-famous wood artist, reacted, creating an unforgettable work, the Dragon of Magré. What Storm Vaia destroyed in October 2018 was, in fact, revived by his art. Now, however, that Dragon, a symbol of rebirth and hope, is no more. Swept away by human hands, which set it on fire, burnt it, leaving only ashes and wounds. But from its wounds, before leaving us and returning prematurely to Mother Nature, it decided to give us another chance, to leave a sign of its return. At the top of the village of Magré, there is no longer the mighty dragon watching over us, but an egg with golden streaks waiting to surprise us with a new rebirth and a new chance. As the Dragon has taught us, we have decided not to beat ourselves up, but rather to fight so that it can be reborn prouder than ever!

The work, more than 6 metres high and 7 metres long, is part of a project to enhance the wood of the Avez del Prinzep, the tallest silver fir in Europe that died in Lavarone in 2017.

Marco Martalar's creation overlooks the Alpe Cimbra woods from Lavarone and will soon be the starting and finishing point of the "Lavarone Green Land" themed trail that will involve other surprising installations.

The aim of the project is to create a thematic path in a green perspective aimed at valorising not only Prinzep, but also the material recovered from the forests affected by the Vaia storm.

The wood used to create the work has not been treated, and for this reason the mighty Dragon will gradually disappear over time and the years, fully espousing the sculptor's philosophy linked to the natural concept of "death and decomposition".
