In Val San Nicolò, following the legend of Similuce

In the light of a lush valley, among the waterfalls born from the rio San Nicolò, this is the realm of the golden eagle. The scene is not only taken by the fairytale landscape. Indeed, the historical aspects of the Great War, religious and architectural, are also interesting.

A walk from Pozza straight to the entrance of Val San Nicolò, to the Baita Ta Ciajaa in the locality "Saùch". Suddenly, the twin pillars of the Maerins, the Monzoni, the ridges of Costabella with Cima Uomo and there, in the distance, Col Ombert appear, protecting, like an embrace, the suggestive wooden chapel dedicated to Santa Maria delle Vette. In this side valley of the Avisio river, in summer the alpine pastures are splendid, mosses hide precious geological sculptures, the woods keep the hammering of the peaks, the meadows cradle many rare flowers. In winter, everything is muffled by snow and an almost surreal silence reigns. Here are preserved the traces of Similuce, a girl raised by King Laurin as a daughter who wanted to meet the Queen Marmolada. She succeeded in her quest with the help of a magic whistle that silenced the birds' song to put an ogre to sleep and dazzled, thanks to the light of butterflies, the witches who wanted her as their servant.
