Hermitage and Lake of San Colombano

Walk that connects the famous Hermitage of San Colombano with the wild turquoise lake below

A splendid walk that first climbs through history, ascending the millenary staircase of 102 steps carved into the rock, to visit the Hermitage of San Colombano, a mystical place dating back to 700 AD and set into a rock face on a 120-meter-high cliff, an ancient refuge for hermit monks and for centuries a destination for pilgrims from all over the world. Legend tells of the Irish Saint who, dressed as a young knight, came here to kill the dragon that terrified and killed the local population.
After visiting the hermitage with its frescoes and engravings (open from May to September on Sundays and holidays - info: eremosancolombano@gmail.com), descend the staircase to immerse yourself in the woods through a path that reaches the shores of the narrow and suggestive lake of San Colombano, first passing the homonymous dam. The path runs along the lake in its entire length amidst dense vegetation and with naturalistic views of rare beauty, ending at the Spino aqueduct. From there it is recommended to retrace your steps returning via the road just walked (or climb a zig-zag path towards the state road SS46 and the village of Spino, then climbing up again towards Moscheri returning via the provincial road of Trambileno)
