Meet Vigo, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy

Since 2017 Vigo has been one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is a village spread over six hamlets. A circular walk, suitable for everyone, allows you to explore its beauties in about 3 hours of walking.

A walk in the historic, geographic and religious heart of Fassa, in the sunniest village of the valley. From the village square, following the road towards Passo Costalunga, you meet the hamlets of Val, Costa, Larcioné, Valongia and reach Tamion, at 1550 meters, one of the highest settlements in Trentino. The inhabitants of Vigo were called "Siori da Vich" because the favorable exposure allowed more abundant crops and richer fodder for family farms. Vigo was the political and Christian capital of Fassa at the time of the Comun de Fascia. All sacraments were celebrated here, even for the nearby valleys. Here is the Church of Santa Giuliana, protector of the valley, and also here, in an ancient barn, there is the Ladin Cultural Institute, the House of the Fassani. Val and Costa are the oldest districts. Their barns, despite restorations, still preserve the original boards, keeping intact the authentic charm of a distant time. In Larcioné you find the only house with two bread ovens, which is quite rare. In fact, in the valley a single oven usually served several houses. As you rise, first at Valongia and then at Tamion, the view of Rodella, Sassolungo and Sassopiatto forces you to slow your ascent, inviting you to stop and contemplate the landscape. Only when your soul is satiated with beauty do you take up the return journey.
