Fontanino - Montozzo Lakes

Medium difficulty route immersed in the Stelvio National Park that starting from the Fontanino parking lot in Peio Fonti, first leads to Lake Pian Palù and then to the Montozzo Lakes.

Starting from the parking lot near Fontanino di Peio, along a medium-high difficulty mountain trail, it is possible to reach the Montozzo Lakes and Rifugio Bozzi, surrounded by a group of jagged mountains: Punta di Montozzo (m. 2863), Torrione d'Albiolo (m. 2969) and Cima Casaiole (m. 2779).

Rifugio Bozzi, located at 2,478 meters altitude, is in the Montozzo Basin on the southern borders of the Ortles-Cevedale massif and was dedicated to the memory of Angelino Bozzi, aspiring officer and silver medalist fallen on the nearby Torrione d’Albiolo during the White War. The route is definitely suggestive and offers an enviable panoramic view of Val di Peio. Once you reach the plateau, you can admire the 3 Montozzo Lakes set like pearls in the valley below Punta d’Albiolo (2,976 m). Along this route, it is possible to find war relics from the First World War 1915-18.
