Dinosaur Footprints

South of Rovereto, discover and learn to distinguish the hundreds of dinosaur footprints formed in the Jurassic period, when the Adige Valley looked like a vast lagoon.

South of the city of Rovereto, hundreds of dinosaur footprints have been found, often arranged in real tracks. The prints date back 200 million years and were discovered in 1990 by Luciano Chemini, a passionate naturalist from Rovereto.

The footprints belong to three different species of dinosaurs:

- the herbivorous Vulcanodontids, 5 to 6 meters long, weighing between one and two tons, but the site also contains prints of an animal over 10 meters long

- smaller herbivorous Ornithischia

- the carnivorous Ceratosaurs, 4-5 meters long with a weight up to 800 kg.
