Dinosaur Footprints
South of Rovereto discover and learn to distinguish the hundreds of dinosaur footprints formed in the Jurassic period, when the Adige Valley looked like a vast lagoon.
Hundreds of dinosaur footprints have been found south of the city of Rovereto, often organised into actual tracks. The footprints date back 200 million years and were discovered in 1990 by Luciano Chemini, a passionate naturalist from Rovereto.
The footprints are of three different species of dinosaurs:

- the herbivores Vulcanodontidae, 5 to 6 metres long, which weighed between one and two tonnes, but the site also contains the footprints of an animal over 10 metres long

- the smaller herbivores Ornithischia

- the carnivorous Ceratosaurus 4-5 metres long and weighing up to 800 kg.
