Ciampedie - Malga Vael - Roda di Vael and Baita Pederiva huts - Paolina Hut (Carezza)

The route connects the natural balcony of Ciampedie to the Roda di Vael and Baita Pederiva huts. It continues along the panoramic path (Hirzelweg), where you can find the large bronze eagle dedicated to Theodor Christomannos.

Once you have reached Ciampedie by cable car, head towards the Ciampedie Hut and, descending into the underlying hollow, then climb up towards the Negritella Hut. Continue to the left on trail no. 545 and, after passing a small rock wall, enter the forest on the right. Shortly after, you cross the ski slope diagonally for the second time and then re-enter the forest. You walk easily on mostly flat and obstacle-free ground. Now the path, which runs along the cliff, passes the rocky spurs of the Rondolae. Follow the sign for Malga Vael and, just after the stream, reach the malga. Follow the uphill dirt road which shortly leads to Buja de Vael. Continue on the left and resume climbing, finally overcoming the rocky ledge that forms the base on which the entire Catinaccio group rests until reaching the Baita Marino Pederiva and Roda di Vael huts (2 hours). Now continue on the panoramic path (Hirzelweg), trail no. 549, which goes around the southern foothills of Majaré. Here you find the bronze eagle made in memory of Theodor Christomannos, a Merano-born doctor of Greek origin who promoted tourism development in the Dolomites. Shortly after, you meet trail no. 539 coming from Paolina Hut, which you reach in about 20 minutes. You return to Passo Costalunga by chairlift.
