25 - Piovernetta Circuit
We are in the area of Alpe di Passo Coe, 10 km from Folgaria, near the border with Veneto. Malga Piovernetta is one of the historic mountain barns (alpeggio stables) of the Magnificent Community of Folgaria. Still used for summer grazing today, it overlooks the descending section of the Pass towards Val dei Campiluzzi. Set in a beautiful alpine setting, it is an easily reachable panoramic spot.
Passo Coe is the contact point between the Trentino and Veneto areas, long a borderland. Here bordered the Republic of Venice, then the Kingdom of Italy, and until 1918 it was a border area of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In short, history has passed through these parts. This is recalled by the nearby Monte Maggio, where the Austro-Italian border once ran, the Malga Zonta memorial (tribute to the Resistance), and Base Tuono, the former missile launch site of Passo Coe - Monte Toraro, now a museum dedicated to the Cold War, known as Base Tuono.
