#21) From the Vincenzo Lancia Refuge to Passo Coe

With a stage of good intensity, we leave the Pasubio group and head towards the Plateaus, walking along the European Path E5. The climb to Monte Borcoletta is very beautiful, offering an exciting view of the mountains just crossed.

From the suggestive Lancia refuge, nestled among the imposing peaks of the Pasubio massif, we head towards the evocative Sella delle Pozze, located at 1,924 meters altitude, and from here enter the Zuccaria valley to join the European Path E5, which will lead towards the evocative Borcola pass. Along the route, you pass ancient mountain huts, high-altitude pastures, and military ruins that tell stories of courage and sacrifice.

Having reached Malga Costa Borcola, at 1,847 meters, you descend to Passo Borcola, at 1,206 meters altitude, from where numerous paths branch off leading to the discovery of military remains such as cable car stations, caves, artillery positions, and trenches, silent witnesses of a tumultuous past.

From Passo Borcola, you climb the evocative Coston dei Laghi up to the summit of Monte Maggio, which rises to 1,853 meters altitude. From here, in an hour of pleasant walking, you reach the evocative Passo Coe basin, at 1,610 meters, with welcoming accommodation facilities.

With a short detour, you can visit Forte Dosso del Sommo (also known as Werk Serrada), the most modern of the plateau forts, offering a fascinating insight into the military history of the region.

At Passo Coe, also noteworthy are Malga Zonta, the scene in August 1944 of a sad partisan massacre, and the Base Tuono, an interesting museum setup dedicated to the Cold War and the Nike-Hercules missile defense system, adding further facets to the history of this place full of memory.
