#17) From Rifugio Coni Zugna to Rifugio Mario Fraccaroli

Splendid stage, with just the right amount of effort but great panoramas. The climb up the steep Val di Gatto will make you sweat the proverbial seven shirts, but Carega opens the doors to the Little Dolomites for us.

A route along the ridges of the mountains separating Vallagarina to the east from the Valli del Leno, made up of high-altitude crossings of trenches and structures that marked the border between the two fronts. From the 1850 meters above sea level of Monte Zugna, the path continues with ups and downs leading to Passo Buole with its 1460 meters above sea level and the nearby military cemetery, then climbs the steep Val di Gatto up to Cima Posta and Monte Carega, at 2250 meters above sea level, where the Rifugio Fraccaroli is found, incredibly perched on the steep slopes surrounding it.
