From 12 April to 14 September 2025, in the evocative setting of the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento, will be held the exhibition "Il teatro del quotidiano – Giacomo Francesco Cipper, detto il Tedesco", a fascinating journey into the pictorial universe of one of the most original artists of the eighteenth century.
Finally, a large, documented exhibition focused on an artist, Giacomo Francesco Cipper (Feldkirch, 1664 – Milan, 1736) commonly known as Todeschini (but signed his paintings simply as "German") whose works are the heritage of the major European museums and the most important collections of ancient art, but on which there continue to be more interpretations – sometimes suggestive – than real certainties. With the title "Il teatro del quotidiano", the exhibition will be at the Castello del Buonconsiglio, in Trento, from 12 April to 14 September, curated by Maria Silvia Proni and Denis Ton. It brings together works from a large private collection in Milan and from several Italian and foreign museums and other collectors. "It is not a pure monograph – underline the curators – but it proposes, alongside a vast corpus of works by the master, active mostly in Milan in the first decades of the eighteenth century, several canvases by artists from the context, especially from Lombardy, who influenced Cipper or were inspired by him: Antonio Cifrondi, Felice Boselli, Monsù Bernardo, the Master of Textile Jeans, Giacomo Ceruti. With absolute firsts, such as an unpublished "Portrait of a Pilgrim" by Ceruti and a little-known version of the "Filatrice" by Pietro Bellotti. Next to the paintings are sometimes exhibited objects that help to understand the concreteness and the connection of the painter with the news and the material: musical instruments, almsgiving compasses ".
