Museo dell’Aeronautica Gianni Caproni - Museum of Aeronautics
A unique collection of vintage aircraft starring historic planes from the early 20th century, including the Ansaldo SVA 5 used by Gabriele D'Annunzio in the Flight over Vienna on 9 August 1918.
The museum, run by the Trentino History Museum Foundation, astounds visitors, bringing them back in time to aviation’s pioneer days, from the turn of the century to WWII. The exhibition is named after Gianni Caproni, a pioneer of flight and founder of the company that bears his name, which manufactured aircraft in the early 20th century.
Caproni himself curated the first version of the collection in 1927 in Taliedo, the site of his workshop at the time, beside Milan airport. The collection grew over time thanks to the dedication of his descendants, and came to Trento in 1992 with the opening of a new, permanent exhibition.
The museum also has a conference centre and a small bookshop selling books, gadgets and models.
