The treasures of Riva del Garda and Arco, loved by Goethe, Kafka and Thomas Mann. The MAG, Museo Alto Garda, comprises the Museum of Riva del Garda and the Galleria Civica G. Segantini [G. Segantini Civic Gallery] in Arco.
The Rocca of Riva del Garda, mirrored in the lake, houses the Museum with its permanent sections and exhibitions, and the workshop-exhibiting route INvento for children and families.
Here the extraordinary eight statues-stelae from the 3rd millennium B.C. are kept
The Picture Gallery displays Garda landscapes depicted by 19th century painters who were fascinated by them, as well as works by Pietro Ricchi, Vincenzo Vela and Francesco Hayez. Also, relics from the Della Scala, Visconti and Venice rule periods.
The Galleria Civica G. Segantini is in Arco, housed in the 17th-century Palazzo dei Panni and dedicated to Giovanni Segantini, the master of divisionism and symbolism, “the painter of the mountains” and of sublime Alpine landscapes, born in Arco in 1858. The Galleria also promotes an intense activity of study and research on contemporary art.
With a 20 minute walk in the typical green Garda landscape, you can go up for a visit to the Castle of Arco, dominating the Sarca Valley.
