Villa Welsperg in Val Canali is a venue that never fails to excite. On this occasion, it will play host to Stefano Belisari’s (aka Elio) spoken and sung tribute to Enzo Jannacci. Two born and bred Milanese artists will perform playful yet profound songs against the backdrop of Pale di San Martino, bringing to life the spirit of Jannacci. The Milan suburbs appeared rough as sandpaper in his fierce photographs of from the 1960s and ‘70s. He used to day, "The bottom of the pile. Tramps, junkies, prostitutes in silk stockings, but also hairy dogs and telegraphists with ardent hearts".
A theatre of the absurd, as real life often is, “Where a myriad of picaresque and borderline characters operate on the verge of the surreal”. Jannacci was a multifaceted artist capable of mixing seemingly irreconcilable styles and themes. During this event, his work is revived by the artistically sensitive Elio who, shedding the vestiges of Elio e le Storie Tese, will perform alongside five musicians, “extravagant travelling companions, forming an unusual and bizarre sound troop”. Directed by Giorgio Gallione, Elio demonstrates his mastery of music and texts by Michele Serra, Umberto Eco, Carlo Emilio Gadda, Dario Fo as well as Beppe Viola, Franco Loi and Cesare Zavattini.
