FAI Summer evenings at the Castle of Avio
From June to September the FAI properties stay open until late at night
On the occasion of the FAI Summer evenings, the Castle of Avio hosts guided tours and special openings every Saturday from the 28th of to the 30th of August.
Perched atop a rocky spur of Monte Vignola overlooking the Vallagarina carved by the Adige River, one of the oldest castles in Trentino has dominated the landscape for over a thousand years. Donated to FAI in 1977 by Countess Emanuela di Castelbarco Pindemonte Rezzonico, the Castle of Avio is a majestic ensemble of crenellated towers and walls, designed as a strategic fortress to control the Adige Valley. Yet it is also a treasure trove of a lush garden and precious, vibrant “Giotto-style” fresco cycles dedicated to love and war.
