Dance evening with folk groups
Dancers from different Alpine valleys bring their native folk culture to the streets, demonstrating how important it is to preserve and promote one's roots
This evening, in the square of Canazei, there will be a festive atmosphere with various folk groups, in their colourful and finely decorated costumes, who will perform folk dances, with their pressing rhythms. The "Artüsìn" folk group, from Piedmont, the "Arlecchino Bergamo" folk group and a representation of the "La Valle" Choir - "Gruppo Costumi Storici Cembrani" will take the stage.
The cultural association "Artüsìn" was founded in 2000 in the Valle Ellero, one of the valleys in the Cuneo area, to promote Occitan culture. Its main activities include the publication of cultural materials, the organisation of language and traditional cooking courses, and the staging of travelling exhibitions. The pride and joy of the association is the folk dance group, made up of around fifteen pairs of dancers in original traditional costumes who move gracefully to the notes of the accordion, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy and galoubet.
The dancers of the "Arlecchino Bergamo" folk group wear costumes that are largely reminiscent of those in use in the 18th century in the mountain villages of the Bergamo province, particularly in the Seriana Valley. The prominent symbolic figure, always present in the choreography of the dances, is the mask of Harlequin. It is for this reason that the colours of the clothes, both male and female, are so colourful. Why Harlequin? Because the origins of this mask from the "Commedia dell'Arte", although it found its popularity in Venice, can be found in Oneta, a hamlet of San Giovanni Bianco in the Brembana Valley.
Since 2006, the "La Valle" Choir from the neighbouring Val di Cembra has also been the "Gruppo Costumi Storici Cembrani". In their performances, the choristers wear local festive costumes that, thanks to historical research, have been made and re-proposed according to the original materials and workmanship. The choir currently consists of thirty members from various towns and municipalities of Cembra, Piné and Fiemme, and has been directed since its foundation by Roberto Bazzanella.
At 9 p.m. in the main square of Canazei. Free admission. In case of bad weather, the performance will be held at the "Marmolada" cinema theatre.
