Christmas amid castles

Discover Val di Non's castles in winter

"How did they keep warm without radiators, dad?" Your child tugs at your sleeve of your coat and looks at you with curiosity. Outside, snow is turning the great tower of Castel Valer white, while inside its large rooms are decked out in Christmas decorations and lights. You take her by the hand and show her the large fireplace, which is much taller than she is, and then the large olla stove covered with colourful tiles. Because even keeping warm can be an art form that varies from place to place.

Visiting castles is a great way to read history. And it's fun. Especially in certain castles, such as those in Val di Non, which organise a range of Christmas-themed initiatives for families in winter.

Treasure hunt at Valer Castle

A treasure hunt exploring the history of the castle and its inhabitants, one clue at a time. Its Christmas version is even more fun, as you meet Father Christmas handing out gifts and souvenir letters of the day. Every Sunday in December.

Winter experiences in Castel Valer

At Castel Valer in winter, it's not just Santa's gifts that await you; there are many other surprises! Treasure hunts and guided tours conclude in an elegant, softly lit hall, where a cup of hot tea and the scent of cookies await. A fairytale experience!

Within the walls of Thun Castle

One of Trentino's most prestigious (and best preserved) castles. Snow-coloured it is truly magical! We are talking about Thun Castle, symbol of the powerful Thun Counts. Visiting it is a journey back in time, through aristocratic furniture, old carriages and works of art.

In a Christmas Village

A "Christmas Village" that begins in the streets of Fondo, in the Val di Non, and extends to Lake Smeraldo. In the village, you'll find stalls, Christmas lights, sweets, and live music. Strolling along the Rio Sass stream, you'll discover extraordinary snow and wood sculptures, crafted before your eyes by two local artisans.

Trenino dei Castelli - Christmas Train

Combine visits to castles with good food, and a taste of local products. How? Getting onboard the Castle Train. We all set off together from Trento's small train station, up the Adige Valley through valleys and apple orchards, stopping off at the castles of Val di Non with some tasty interludes.
