Guardians of the Alps
A shared commitment for the future of our mountains
The Alps are a natural and cultural heritage unique in the world: extraordinary landscapes, precious biodiversity, living traditions, and welcoming communities. To safeguard this richness and ensure that future generations can also enjoy it, nine Alpine regions have created the Alpine Manifesto, a common document that gathers 10 principles of respect and responsibility.
Trentino, together with the other members of the AlpNet network, wholeheartedly supports this initiative, which invites residents and visitors to experience the mountains with awareness, valuing authentic experiences and supporting those who take care of these places every day.
Discover below the Alpine Manifesto: ten simple actions to travel in harmony with nature, people, and the culture of our mountains.
1. We respect the nature and wildlife of the Alps
As the last large natural area in Central Europe, the Alps provide a valuable habitat for more than 30’000 animal and 13’000 plant species, making them a true hotspot of biodiversity. We honor this biodiversity by treating these natural habitats with utmost respect and care, ensuring they thrive for generations to come.
2. We behave respectfully towards other guests and locals
A harmonious alpine experience balances the satisfaction of both the local community and visitors. We strive for harmony, respecting the needs and traditions of the locals while enjoying our time in their home.
3. We leave nothing behind in the natural alpine landscape
Practicing "Leave No Trace" is essential for preserving the pristine beauty and ecological integrity of the Alps, fostering a deeper connection and respect for nature.
4. We only sleep outdoors where it is permitted
Just as we wouldn't want strangers in our homes, we respect the habitats of alpine wildlife. We utilize the extensive network of mountain huts, ensuring we do not disturb the natural inhabitants.
5. We choose tours in the Alps carefully and prepare them well
In the Alps, the terrain is varied, and sometimes challenging with steep slopes, narrow paths, and rocky passages. Preparation is key to a safe and enjoyable alpine adventure. We respect the unpredictable weather and challenging terrain by planning our tours meticulously, ensuring we are physically and mentally ready
6. We cross the Alps with care and stay on paths, trails, and slopes
The Alps are ageless and the generations before us have developed ways for us to cross this extraordinary landscape. We honor the legacy of those who have come before us by using the well-maintained network of trails and paths. This not only protects the environment but also ensures our safety.
7. We respect the operating times and rules of snow sports facilities and cross-country ski trails
The Alps offer space for relaxation and are a paradise for snow enthusiasts. Adhering to the rules of snow sports facilities ensures safety and enjoyment for all. We share the slopes responsibly, creating a pleasant experience for everyone.
8. We buy regionally and support local businesses
The Alps offer a lot of local products for us to discover. Supporting local products and businesses strengthens the alpine economy and promotes sustainable practices. We cherish the unique offerings of the region, contributing to a vibrant and resilient community.
9. We travel environmentally friendly
We minimize our carbon footprint by utilizing sustainable mobility options. This not only protects the climate but also enhances our experience by reducing stress and allowing us to fully appreciate the journey
10. We carry the beautiful memories of the Alps in our hearts
The Alps are a source of lasting inspiration. We cherish and respect the beauty of the Alps, ensuring that our presence does not diminish the experience for others. We take home only memories, leaving the landscape as we found it for future visitors.
