Rovereto Open
A Trentino experience for everyone
Plains and mountains, pre-alpine pastures and rocky peaks, small villages and large museums come together in Lagarina Valley and create a living, multifaceted identity. Here, too, professionals and the local community work hand in hand to offer opportunities to experience the area without physical or communicative barriers.
If you want to visit cultural sites, for example, you can start at the Mart in Rovereto, where there are no architectural barriers and people with sensory disabilities have guided tours with LIS interpreters (booking required) and materials in Braille. You can find all the directions and contacts to organise your visit here.
The War History Museum offers videos in Italian Sign Language for deaf people. The museum tour has some architectural barriers: if you have a mobility impairment and would like to visit, you can contact the secretariat on 0464 438100 to discuss the options and organise a visit that suits your needs.
Beseno Castle is working to open up to an ever wider public with different needs. It is currently accessible to deaf people, while it may pose difficulties for those with a mobility impairment. In this case, we advise you to directly contact the castle to check access possibilities:
- telephone 0461 492811
- email education@buonconsiglio.it
Wandering through the streets of Rovereto, the heart of the Etschtal, is a journey through time and culture that takes you through historical eras and artistic currents. There is a free audio guide for the visually impaired accessible online or via app.
To explore the city, you can choose from several accessible urban hikes. Click on the links to discover the itineraries:
- From palace to palace
- The kilometre of wonders
- Art Nouveau in Rovereto
- Among St Mark’s sepulchres
- A village between two giants
Experiencing an area also means participating in its events.
The Oriente Occidente Dance Festival is accessible to people with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities. It provides audio-tactile subpacs, audio-descriptions of performances, reserved seats for persons with reduced mobility and wheelchair users, sensory decompression spaces and simplified language kits. This year’s festival runs from 30 August to 7 September. Here you can find all the information and contacts to organise your visit.
Outdoor options are also open to everyone.
In Lagarina Valley, you can find no-barrier paths that will take you past villages, vineyards, sunny meadows and panoramic viewpoints. Or, if you come to Trentino in September, you can take part in the San Rocco trail, a hike accessible to blind and visually impaired people.
For winter sports enthusiasts, the Monte Baldo Ski School provides a dualski shell for people with motor disabilities and lessons by specialised instructors. Classes must be booked in advance: you can find information and contact details here.
The inclusive experiences in this area of Trentino include some involving the senses:
- The Oasis of the Senses at Palazzo Baisi on the Brentonico Plateau, in the heart of the Baldo Park, offers an experiential path where visitors can discover nature through touch, smell and hearing
- or you can try the “Vivallis Blind” tasting to learn about wines, guided by taste and smell
There are therefore many opportunities to discover the area, partly thanks to the organisations that work every day to make it more accessible. These include the Informatici senza frontiere, whose work improves the lives of disabled people.
