Sellaronda, the most famous ski tour in the Alps

A Tour of the Four Passes in the magical setting of the Italian Alps

  • Distance on skis: approx. 26 km
  • Ski pass required: Dolomiti Superski ski pass
  • Time required: 5/6 ore
  • Recommended period: February-March
  • Difficulty level: moderate (good physical fitness and skiing abilities required)

Sellaronda is the most famous ski tour in the Alps, as well as being one of the most beautiful and spectacular in the world. The surrounding landscape consists of the Italian Alps: craggy peaks, dense forests and exhilarating descents.

The entire Sellaronda ski tour adds up to a total distance of 40 km, 26 of which are covered on skis. The slopes, which form a sort of loop around the Sella Massif, pass through 4 Ladin valleys: Val di Fassa in Trentino, Val Gardena and Val Badia in Alto Adige, and Arabba in Veneto. There are also 4 passes that you can get to without ever taking your skis off: The Pordoi, Sella, Gardena and Campolongo passes.

The itinerary

You can start the tour from any one of the four valleys, tackling it in either a clockwise direction (by following the orange arrows) or an anticlockwise one (following the green arrows). If you’re setting out from Val di Fassa, the ideal starting point is to take the Belvedere or Col Rodella ski lift and the “Funifor” cable car that goes directly from Alba di Canazei to Col dei Rossi.

These cable lifts are all swift and efficient. You are now in the Dolomiti Superski ski resort, where with a single ski pass you can do the full Tour of the Four Passes. Reasonably experienced skiers can complete this unforgettable ski tour in around 6 hours. Remember to set out before 10 in the morning and get to the last pass before 15:30 in order to make it back to the starting point in time.

If you’ve never done the Sellaronda before, get ready to tackle it now with family, friends or colleagues! And even if you’ve already feasted your eyes on the immense beauty that surrounds the Sella Massif, the Tour of the Four Passes is always worth another go: why not make it a standing appointment in your calendar!
