Does anyone need a reason to eat ice cream? Certainly not on a summer’s day in Trentino. Here, it’s almost a religion, and everyone expects their ice cream to be of the highest quality, and made from the freshest local ingredients.

Here are eight ice cream parlours you dare not miss...

Fior di Gusto
Via G. Grazioli, 8 - Trento
Fior di Gusto is a stone's throw from the city centre, and does deliveries too. So you don’t even have to leave your hotel room to enjoy its products.

Gelateria Igloo
Via Giovanni Antonio Scopoli, 2 - Trento
This is one for secret chocoholics, because Gelateria Igloo has a special ice cream cone with chocolate hidden inside… Cyclists love it too: it’s close to the Valle dell’Adige cycle path.

Gelateria Serafini
Via Cembra, 27 - Lavis
Fancy trying a new flavour? Then the Gelateria Serafini in Lavis should be your target. It offers everything from vanilla to Müller Thurgau.

Gelateria Flora
Viale Rovereto, 54 - Riva del Garda

You stopped at Gelateria Bologna en route, and now you’ve reached Riva del Garda, you should stop at Gelateria Flora too. Gluten and lactose-free flavours are on the menu, as well as mountainous cones and every kind of ice-cream dessert.

Gelateria Zenzero
Via Libertà 4 - Borgosacco Rovereto
For cyclists, it’s the perfect setting: right next to the river on the Valle dell’Adige cycle path. But best of all is the ice cream: home-made, and not afraid of new flavours. Basil, lemon and ginger, anyone?

Gelateria Bologna
Via Garibaldi, 12 - Mori
If you’re heading to Lake Garda, Gelateria Bologna is an essential stop. One of the most famous ice-cream parlours in Trentino, it serves the most amazing sundaes - piled high with fruit, millefeuille and chantilly cream.

Agrigelateria La Cà sul Lago
Via Lungolago, 87 - Baselga di Pinè
This gelateria is also a farm, and uses its own fruit. It’s harvested in the morning and then made into ice cream for sale in the afternoon. If you’re looking for fresh flavours, this is where to find them.

Chalet Prà delle Nasse
Via Cavallazza, 24 - San Martino di Castrozza
Fancy a view with your gelato? They don’t come more stunning than the sight of the Pale di San Martino massif, towering over the tables at Chalet Prà delle Nasse.
