Festival in the "Ciajeole" district
Typical specialities and folk music enliven one of Moena's oldest neighbourhoods for two days of party
This is the oldest part of Moena and its name recalls the village's rural roots: "Ciajeole" derives from "ciajea", the place where cheese was once made. In the heart of the district, among old barns, stone houses and flower-filled courtyards, long tables are set up for tasting Ladin specialities, above all the famous "Puzzone di Moena" cheese. The atmosphere is made even more lively by the cheerful notes of folk music. For the occasion, the small church of the Madonnina is also opened, a Baroque jewel with an octagonal plan, built in 1713 and owned by the Sommavilla family. Inside, you can admire a fine wooden altar and an altarpiece by Giovanni Felicetti, an artist from Val di Fassa.
Saturday 5 July from 11 a.m.: aperitif in the little square, kitchen opening from 12 noon, afternoon snack with homemade cakes and "fortaie" (delicious fried pastry in the characteristic shape of a snail enriched by cranberry jam), dinner and live music from 8 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. Sunday 6 July from 11 a.m.: aperitif in the little square, kitchen opening from 12 noon, afternoon snack with homemade cakes and "fortaie", dinner and live music from 7 to 10.30 p.m.
Organised by the "Grop de Ciajeole" volunteers. The district can be reached on foot from the village. On the two days of the festival, the road from the "Dante" fountain to the Madonnina church is closed to vehicular traffic. There is no parking in the vicinity.
