The exhibition explores the mechanisms of human vision, from optical illusions to the perceptual abilities of other species.
It is increasingly easy to create images and videos, with technologies available to everyone, from mobile phones to artificial intelligence, with content often indistinguishable from reality, also based on visual limits, the reworking of our brains and how easily we can be deceived.
The exhibition, through an interactive scientific display, aims to offer visitors a curious and fun path suitable for all ages, which crosses the mechanisms of human vision and beyond.
Thanks to experiments, virtual reality, immersive experiences, optical illusions, between Nature, History and Science, it is discovered that the sight, the sense on which the human being relies most, can make appear real things and events that in reality are not.
The experiences are distributed in the temporary rooms, but also in several permanent rooms of the Museum and the Planetarium, as well as special site-specific cupolas in the courtyard and garden. Among the various available stations, there are several experiments that show how our brain perceives colors, virtual reality displays that show animal vision, author’s photos in ultraviolet to understand how pollinating insects see, Optical illusions and motion illusions, including film precursors such as zootropics and stroboscopic phenahytoscopes. The topics covered are vision, brain, colour physics, brain deception, animal vision.
