Fashionable fabrics in the 18th century
Within the beautiful halls of Palazzo Taddei in Ala, the future home of the “Museo Provinciale del Tessuto”, the “Museo del Castello del Buonconsiglio” is presenting a temporary exhibition dedicated to the exquisite textile art from the 18th century.
The exhibition is divided into nine thematic sections, guiding visitors through the history of decorative motifs created and used during the 18th century: from “bizarre” silks, renowned for their marvellous abstract, imaginative, and creative designs, to lace fabrics, floral meander patterns, and the vertical stripes that were fashionable in the late 18th century. Also featured are paintings and everyday objects, composing a rich mosaic of a society enamoured with elegance and luxury.
The exhibition itinerary also includes additional rooms within the palace: on the first floor, a section dedicated to the noble lifestyle of the Taddei barons, featuring furnishings, furniture, and accessories; on the ground floor, the evocative Loom Room, where a rare example of a wooden velvet loom offers insight into the complex weaving technique of one of the most intricate and precious fabrics of the 18th century. A unique opportunity to discover, within the elegant setting of Palazzo Taddei, the cultural richness of 18th-century textile production.
Curated by Alessandra Geromel Pauletti, in collaboration with Laura Dal Prà, Maddalena Ferrari, and Dario De Cristofaro, the exhibition is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from July 4 to September 28, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Free admission.
