Great Carnival Party
Strada Rezia is filled with masks, colours and joy with the big Carnival parade, followed by a party with music, dancing and typical gastronomic delights
Cheerfulness, jokes, dancing and lots of delicacies: in Val di Fassa, the last day of "Carnascèr" is an explosion of festivities that enlivens the village squares. For centuries, Carnival has been the most eagerly awaited moment of the year: the elderly would come back as children amidst jokes and witty banter, protected by the anonymity of the "faceres", wooden masks of extraordinary workmanship, today sculpted by the most famous artists in the valley. For young people, on the other hand, it often marked the beginning of a new life, as it was between February and March that many got married. That taste for pranks and the pleasure of dressing up can still be found today in the events of the "Carnascèr Ladin", which has always been considered the most beautiful time of the year in Val di Fassa.
In Vigo, the festival starts at 2:30 p.m. with the parade of themed floats, creatively created by sports, cultural and voluntary associations, by the "Coscritti" - the youngsters who will turn 18 in 2025 - and by school groups. Between two wings of cheering crowds, the parade will cross "Strada Rezia" to "Piaz J.B. Massar" square, followed by a cheerful procession of masqueraders. And just behind the primary school, the aromas of tradition will conquer the palate with "fortaie" (fried sweets in the shape of snails), apple fritters and sausage sandwiches. But the fun doesn't end there: for the older ones, the party continues into the evening in the "Piaz de Vich" square with the overwhelming music of DJ Fufu!
