A long time before there were ski slopes, this refuge was built on the Alpe di Lusia to serve early travellers with an interest in exploring the Dolomites. That was the end of the nineteenth century, but today the massive stone walls still tell an ancient mountain story today. During the Great War the refuge - very close to the first Austrian line on Cima Bocche - became a military command base. Now - completely restructured in traditional style - it is immensely popular with skiers and with the many walkers and cyclists who, in summer, come over Passo Lusia on foot or by mountain bike. Open Every day from 20 June to early October From the beginning of December to April Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks From Passo Lusia it takes 1 ½ hour (difficulty E) to walk to the little Lusia lakes and the Sandro Redolf bivouac hut. From here you can climb Cima Bocche (1 hr 20 mins, difficulty E) or set out on the Gronton via ferrata (2 hours, difficulty E) which follows old communciation trenches dug out during the Great War by the Austro -Hungarian army.
