Unwind and relax in the Val di Fiemme and Val di Cembra

Feel good amid the lush green of the Dolomites and Lagorai mountains

The Val di Fiemme and Val di Cembra merge into each other, and both are crossed by the Avisio stream, which lends each of them their own unique landscape. The Val di Cembra is deep and narrow, while the Val di Fiemme is open and sunny.

Both valleys boast a generous abundance of nature, such as that found within the Paneveggio Natural Park, or Latemar and Lagorai. Here, paths wend their way through silent woods, traverse terraced vineyards and are immersed in nature – a place to breathe, unwind and rejuvenate body and mind.

It’s the ideal place to enjoy a slow-paced experience: the ones that gladden your heart. We’ve assembled 5 recommendations – just a small ‘taster’ of the wealth of activities you can enjoy in the Val di Fiemme and Val di Cembra this summer.

#1

Towards the Potzmauer mountain hut

The path leading to the Potzmauer hut is very easy, albeit uphill. It traverses forests of silver fir, spruce and Scots pine to emerge into the grass-filled bowl where hut is situation. When you reach it, the hut is a perfect location for a hearty lunch with traditional dishes and stays of one or more nights in one of its rooms.

#2

Along the Dürer Trail

The Val di Cembra forms the backdrop for a part of the historical trail called the Dürerweg, which follows Albrecht Dürer’s famed "journey to Italy” and reaches the rare geological phenomenon called the Pyramids of Segonzano. The origins of these earth pyramids – some up to 20 metres high – date to about 20 thousand years ago and their extraordinary natural beauty can easily be admired.

#3

In the forest of violins

In the so-called ‘forest of violins’, where Stradivarius used to select spruce trees to make his violins, you can follow the Marciò nature trail. This easy walk crosses a spectacular suspension bridge and leads up to a deer wildlife area, where you can observe them in their natural habitat.

#4

Ascent to the Bombasel lakes with a mountain guide

On this hike, you’ll discover the Lagorai mountains as you ascend to the crystal-clear, emerald-green Bombasel lakes. This easy, panoramic hike passes through different landscapes: grassy slopes, paths, easy mule tracks made with large stones, finally reaching the beautiful lakes set amid dark rocks.

#5

Art at high altitude

An art park at an altitude of 2,200 metres, in the heart of Val di Fiemme. Here, on a path that traces a full circle of 3 kilometres, you can come face to face with more than 27 art installations which create an interplay with the peaks of the Latemar Dolomites. The park, which can also be visited with snow shoes or skis in winter, can be reached using the Agnello chairlift.

#6

At the Cascata di Cavalese Waterfall

The Cavalese Waterfall is one of the wonders of the Val di Fiemme. Even the route to reach it is enchanting: little lodges and pastures with cheerful cows, until you arrive at the woods, which open onto a 20 metre drop of gushing water.

#7

Tasting in Val di Cembra

In Val di Cembra, where the terraced vineyards shape the landscape, the wineries and distilleries will help you to discover products of fantastic quality, such as Müller Thurgau, Trentodoc and Grappa Trentina. Guided tours and tasting sessions in these establishments will be your access to a world of delights.

#8

With bare feet in the cool water

Nature is so healthy, and with the addition of some little activities, you can reach total wellbeing. Take for example a pool of cool, fresh water, in the woods, and you have a Kneipp path. Good for your feet, and your mind. Have you ever tried it?

#9

Fiemme cycle route

Whether you start from Predazzo or from Molina di Fiemme, the result does not change: you cycle on an enchanting, airy cycle path, without serious differences in height, often accompanied by the cheerful flow of the Avisio river and the green meadows of Val di Fiemme.  Whether with city bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes or e-bikes, the Fiemme cycle path is suitable for all types of cyclists.

#10

Visit the Geological Museum of the Dolomites in Predazzo

Since 1899, the Geological Museum of the Predazzo Dolomites has housed more than 11,000 findings. The exhibition, organised on two floors, is considered the richest collection of invertebrate fossils from the mid-Triassic cliffs in Italy. In addition to discovering the geology of UNESCO heritage mountains, in the museum, in summer, you can walk the Dos Capèl geological trail.
