The walk through the extraordinary environment of the Val di Fassa Dolomites is the prelude to reaching one of the most renowned mountain huts in Trentino.

Author’s recommendation

The Gardeccia was the arrival point for the Dolomites leg of the Giro d’Italia in 2011. Here is another suggestion for reaching the mountain hut by alternative and eco-friendly means.

Turn-by-turn directions

Ciampedie - Rifugio Gardeccia

With the new ski lift, in four minutes you can climb from Vigo di Fassa to Ciampedie. Otherwise, from Pera di Fassa, but from here you need to take three separate sections of ski lift.

From Ciampedie, you walk along a comfortable and well marked trail – no. 540 - following the directions for the Rifugio Gardeccia.

The path continues along easy ups and downs, winding its way through a sparse wood, which allows ample views over the surrounding spires of the Dolomites.

Following trail 540, you reach the mountain hut, located in the upper Val del Vajolet.

To return, you follow the same route backwards.

Getting there

SS48 delle Dolomiti coming from Val di Fiemme, or SS41 coming from Bolzano - Val D’Ega. You can leave your car in the parking area for the “Ciampedie” ski lift facilities. The ski lift facility is connected to the town with an escalator that leads directly to the entrance.

Parking

Vigo di Fassa, parking area for the “Ciampedie” ski lift facilities.

Arrival by train, car, foot or bike
