Turn-by-turn directions
Behind the church in Fontanazzo (1430 m), you take a road that climbs directly into the woods. It soon becomes a narrow mule track and, finally, a trail, with signs indicating Val Dona - Rif. Dona.
The trail climbs up into the woods quite steeply, and continues West-Northwest.
At about 1550 m asl, you cross a forest road [following it to the left (West) for a short while, you can reach the nearby Rifugio Barciaveia, a possible refreshment point].
After crossing the forest road, you continue along the trail with signs for “Val Dona - Rif. Dona”.
At about 1820 m asl, the trail ends and intercepts the steep Val di Dona mule track. You continue to climb the steep forest track - at times with cobblestone paving - and, after another 200 m climb, you reach the pastures of Val di Dona, a fabulous Alpine view. Here you can find the mountain hut that bears the same name. You continue along the track (marked 577) that joins the trail marked 580 in Camerloi locality. You continue to follow trail 580, following directions for Rif. Antermoia.
The trail now climbs gradually and, after a series of easy bends and a well-marked but rocky section, you reach the “Pas de Dona” at an elevation of 2516 m. Another short and flat section leads you to Rifugio Antermoia (2497 m).
You return along the same route.
NB: It is a rather a long walk (about 15 Km - there and back, of course), and is quite tiring (just under 1200 m cumulative elevation gain). Take this fact into consideration.
There are alternative paths to reach the Antermoia Alpinehut: here you can find the itinerary that starts from Rifugio Gardeccia
