Hidden Treasures: Drena, between history and nature
Ancient history, modern art and lush natural surroundings, this is a walk full of surprises from Drena Castle to the open air gallery “Drena 3000” and the chestnut wood of the “Cammino dei Ricci” trail.
A fascinating trail connecting three distinct places in the Drena municipality, a mixture of historic interest (Drena Castle), art (“Drena 3000”, a tour of contemporary works of art set in natural surroundings) and nature (the “Cammino dei Ricci” trail through century-old chestnut woods outside the town). These places sum up the richness and diversity of the area around Drena.
Drena is a small town which grew up in the shadow of the castle which once controlled the road leading from Garda towards the Cavedine Valley. The castle was built n the remains of a fortified settlement dating back to the Bronze Age and is still dominated by the 25 metre high keep. Inside the walls, the ancient chapel of San Martino (9th century) is well worth a visit.
To round off the visit of the town we recommend a visit of the little sanctuary to Our Lady of Fatima along the ancient road Via al Castello di Drena.
