The vertical and difficult south-western face of Cima d'Asta, and its picturesque pond, are the destination of this day in the mountains. The walk begins on a gentle forest road and continues over Bualon di Cima d'Asta on steeper slopes, allowing hikers to reach the amphitheatre that frames the famous and imposing Cima d'Asta.

The spectacular scenery is characterized by the presence of granite, an element that distinguishes the Cima D'Asta Group from the neighbouring Lagorai group, porphyritic in nature.

Safety information

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Malga Sorgazza (1450 m) continue on the dirt road that runs along the small lake (no entry for vehicles).

R emain on the uphill road, ignoring the various crossroads you will come across, until you reach the downhill station of the cableway of Rifugio O. Brentari di Cima d'Asta (Teleferica Brusà 1647 m).

About twenty metres after the cableway, on the right, is the crossroads with trail 327 going up to Rifugio O. Brentari (sign). Leave the road.

Climb through the wood to a small wooden bridge that allows to cross a stream, after which the path, now flat and downhill, gradually moves to the centre of the valley. In this section of the route there are numerous bridges that help going over numerous torrents.

Having reached the bottom of the valley, where it rises up again, the path too begins to rise again, which allows you to climb Bualon di Cima d'Asta, keeping on the left side of the valley until under the Cima Tellina walls.

After a hairpin bend section, at around 2000 m altitude, you reach the crossroads between SAT path No. 327 and 326 (sign).

Turn right and, with a long straight stretch towards the centre of the amphitheatre, continue to climb.

Having reached 2131 m altitude at the ruins of Baita dei Pastori, the trail splits, offering two different ways to access the mountain hut. The first (trail 327, Lastoni) goes directly through the Lastoni o Laste di Cima d’Asta, and the second (trail 327b – Trodo dei Aseni) goes through the Lastoni more gently, by getting round them with a wide turn to the right.

Please note that the Lastoni trail is made up of oblique granite slabs that require, especially on descending, some experience in keeping a good grip on the road. We advise against making any descent on these slabs when they are wet.

The two trails come together at an altitude of about 2380 m, shortly after a cableway pylon.

The climb continues, in the last section, between large granite boulders up to the lake, located below the mountain hut.

When you reach the sign, at the 2473 m altitude of lake Cima d’Asta, turn right and go through the last metres of ascent from Rifugio O. Brentari – Cima d’Asta (2476 m).

The return is back along the uphill route.

Getting there

Take national road SS47 of the Valsugana up to Strigno/Tesino.   Go through the centre of Strigno and continue towards Pieve and Castello Tesino. In Pieve Tesino, follow the signs to Val Malene (left). Once you entered Val Malene go deeper into the valley towards Malga Sorgazza/Cima d'Asta. Park the car in the large open area next to Malga Sorgazza (1450 m).
