Percorso alle Cavre – Sentiero degli Scaloni
Mountain tour • Garda Trentino and Valle di Ledro
This beautiful ring route runs on the slopes above the hamlets of Ceniga and Dro. You initially follow the "Sentiero degli Scaloni" rising with suspended ladders, walkways and passages cut into the rock along the Coste D'Anglone cliffs. A second, flat path in the wood leads to SAT trail No. 425 "dell'Angiom", which will take you back to valley (Dro), again through a series of steps carved into the rock. All exposed and dangerous sections are equipped with handrail and excellent steel cable where you can thus secure yourself. This is not just a trekking route; we are talking about an equipped hiking trail, where you need to bring adequate via ferrata equipment (harness, helmet, safety lanyard), even if the vast majority of hikers you will meet travel without it. This route is also known as "Percorso alle Cavre" because in its upper part it passes by some characteristic trestles used in the past as part of a cableway system to move lumber and other material between the valley floor and the woods above. The route timetable allows to go through the most challenging and technical part of it during the ascent, at the beginning of the trip; you can however go in the opposite direction. Thanks to its favourable exposure, the trail is practicable all year round.
Route suitable only for hikers with the appropriate equipment.
The "Sentiero degli Scaloni" was traced in the first decade of the last century (1909) by the Austrians, as you can tell from an etching still visible on the rock today; it is a "historic" route of great value from a trekking point of view, unwinding in a unique and uncontaminated environment. The same goes for "Sentiero dell'Angiom", traced from a local stonemason (Stefano Sartorelli, PHOTO 19) in even earlier times.
The route timetable allows to tackle the most challenging and technical part while going uphill, at the beginning of the trip; you can however go in the opposite direction. Thanks to its favourable exposure, the route is practicable all year round.
Route only suitable for hikers with the appropriate equipment.
