Hidden Treasures: Lake Tenno and the Medieval Villages
This is a nature trail which joins up Lake Tenno with the medieval village of Canale, counted among the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”, and Calvola, a little hamlet overlooking Lake Garda
Lake Tenno is one of the most uncontaminated alpine lakes in Italy and you can swim in it in summertime. The lake is famous for its characteristic hue, a rich turquoise colour which changes with the seasons. Another characteristic feature is the way in which the water level varies: in autumn it can be 15 metres higher than in summer.
A short distance from the lake, the medieval village of Canale is counted among the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”. It is a concentrated mixture of history, art and tradition, preserved virtually intact to the present day. Its solid stone houses, vaulted archways, underpasses, narrow laneways and wooden balconies are the perfect illustration of the rural architecture of the area. Here you will find the "Casa degli Artisti": opened in the 1960s, it offers hospitality to artists in search of inspiration, who in return, donated one of their works. Today, the Casa hosts exhibitions, workshop and all manner of activities open to the public.
