From Storo to the Alpe di Faserno across the open spaces of the pre-Alps
From Malga Vacil you have an enchanting glimpse of the lower Alps, on the Lombardy borders
This route is fairly long overall but not particularly difficult; it is a route worth doing for the most beautiful views over the peaks of the lower Alps of Lombardy and Trentino. You start from Storo in the Cà Rossa area just before the bridge over the river Chiese (parking). Initially you pedal towards Tione and about 200m before the junction with the main road you take the underpass. After this the long climb begins; it is distinctive because alongside the numbering of the hairpins you will see the nicknames of the people who worked on the building of the road.
After 13km you will be at the Alpe di Faserno where, at 1,436 m., you will find grazing pastures and some mountain houses. From here you continue towards Malga Vacil where you can admire the rewarding views. Shortly before Malga Vacil at 1,800 m. you turn off to the left towards Malga Dosso Rotondo along a mule track; there are still some stretches to climb and you reach the junction with another forest road which comes up from Malga Capre. Here starts the long descent which will take you to Riccomassimo, a hamlet outside Lodrone, a few kilometres away from our ride's departure point.
