DESCRIPTION
The Sanderland climbing garden is in a superb location suspended above the enchanting Tenno Lake. This extremely well-equipped climbing wall is so rarely climbed it could almost be considered abandoned. This is probably due to the high ratings of the routes (the easiest route is a very stretched 6c!) and their length, on average over 30m, as well as the fact that they jut out on an oblique ledge. A huge amount of work has been put into creating the climbing garden, which has transformed this awkward, oblique grassy ledge into a lovely sunny terrace. Almost all the routes are longer than 30m: halfway along the pitch, slightly to the side of the climbing line, there is always however a chain for moving over (congratulations on the good work!). The grades are to be confirmed and all seem to be a bit low. The rock is composed of elaborate, rough grey limestone. Considering the fact that some routes are very recent, some handholds clearly have not been fully tested (so watch out!). Pitches continue on from each other over a slightly overhanging wall and so require resistance, technique and mental stamina. If it rains here you won't be able to climb unfortunately, and will just have to be content with enjoying the fantastic view.

PERIOD RECOMMENDED
The best period is in spring and autumn when you can take advantage of the fact that it is in the shade in the morning or in the sun in the afternoon depending on preference and temperature at the time. Do not attempt this climb in summer when it is too hot or muggy.

GETTING TO THE CLIMBING GARDEN
There are 2 ways:
1. From Arco: follow the signs for Tenno - Lago di Tenno - Passo del Ballino. Carry on along the main road through the village of Tenno as far as the restaurant-bar "al Lago" by the lake, where there are several places you can park.
2. From the Giudicarie: get to Fiavè and from here to Passo del Ballino. Descend the pass for a few kilometres until you reach Lake Tenno.
From the restaurant-bar climb down the steps leading to the little beach on the lakeshore and follow the shoreline round to the right. Having skirted the lake, get onto the forestry road above the fields along the lake and proceed to the left (northwards). Follow the road as far as a double hairpin bend, one to the right and one to the left. At the left hairpin bend, take the track that can be made out which will take you to the base of the climbing garden which is now in sight.
