A permanent exhibition about glaciers, to inform and disseminate the most up-to-date scientific knowledge on mountain environments, with a special focus on glacial and periglacial areas - this is the Adamello Glaciological Centre. It is a glacier centre located at 2,430 metres above sea level, dedicated to Austrian officer Julius Payer - who was among the first alpinists to climb this mountain - and which has been established by Sat, Trentino's Alpinists Society, in partnership with the Tridentine Museum of Natural Sciences. Opened in 1994, it has become an important venue for hikers and alpinists to learn about and investigate the dynamics of the largest Italian glacier.

Housed in the old Mandron Mountain-hut, the centre also offers study programmes and residential facilities, thanks to the nearby Città di Trento mountain-hut. A state-of-the-art multimedia and interactive system encourages a hands-on and independent approach of the visitor, featuring specific sections devoted to geology, geomorphology, flora, climate and history of the area, revealing glaciers' secrets.
