Catinaccio, where your gaze is lost in the spectacle of the breathtaking Dolomite peaks.

Author’s recommendation

On the meadow above the mountain hut, you will not find it hard to spot and hear the marmots as they peacefully bounce from one den to the next, and watch you as you walk past them.

Turn-by-turn directions

The very short walk starting from Gardeccia in the upper Val del Vajolet, starts right behind the structure of the Baita Enrosadira (opposite Rif. Gardeccia). You follow the path/trail marked with no. 540, all the way to the nearby clearing of the Rifugio Catinaccio.

To return, you follow the same route backwards.

Alternatively, it is possible to climb up from Vigo di Fassa to the Ciampedie on the ski lift, and from there to follow trail 540 in the opposite direction, towards Gardeccia, until you reach the Rifugio Catinaccio (in this case, the walk takes 30-40 minutes, and is basically all level).

Getting there

SS48 delle Dolomiti until Pera di Fassa. You head for Monzon, where you can leave your car and take the shuttle bus to Gardeccia. Information at the tourist office.
