Val Venegia Hike
The hike begins at the Rolle Pass, 9 km from San Martino di Castrozza, which can be reached in a few minutes
Starting at the Segantini (1950 m) ski-lift, go up the snowy road to Baita Segantini (2170 m) to enjoy one of the most highly photographed views of the Dolomites. From here, climb down into Val Venegia among the innumerable hairpin bends of the road. Visibility at this point is generally good, even when the snow is piled high. The itinerary flattens out on reaching Pian della Vezzana, and you will see Malga Venegiota soon afterwards (1820 m). Continuing down the road, you will find Malga Venegia - a recommended stopping point because of its sunny position. The Malga is open in winter and offers a menu of traditional dishes. From Malga Venegia, climb down the road until you find the Valles Pass provincial road crossing in Pian dei Casoni (1690 m). From here, follow the signs through the woods to Malga Juribello (1868 m) and turn back towards the Rolle Pass across the meadows. You can also take the direct path from Malga Venegia to Malga Juribello. However, visibility is not always good here, especially after heavy snowfall.
The snow can hide both path and information signs. As such, we recommend enjoying this hike in the company of Alpine Guides.
The only points along the route where you can stop for refreshments are Baita Segantini (phone 0439 68251, check to see if it is open) and Malga Venegia (phone 348 0627886).
