MONTE PECOL 2302 m.
Located on the cusp between Val S. Nicolò and Val dei Monzoni, Monte Pecol is a small, regal ledge in the heart of an area of sublime natural beauty.
These are the "Monti Pallidi" (Pale Mountains), or Dolomites. Today, they have also become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, the relaxing stillness of the area and the charm of Val dei Monzoni provide a sharp contrast to the - albeit discreet - worldliness of the more tourist-oriented Val di Fassa.
Park your car at the mouth of Val S. Nicolò, just a few minutes away from Pozza di Fassa, near Pensione Soldanella. Put on your skis and start climbing up the valley using the specially groomed trail on the orographical left of the valley with its postcard-perfect views that can be enjoyed from December to March. On reaching Malga Crocifisso, cross briefly over the ski pistes and keep making your way towards the solitary splendour of Val dei Monzoni on your right. Taking the forest road - travelled and groomed by Rifugio Monzoni's snowmobile - is no challenge, as it climbs slowly up the woods. At approximately 1700 m, take the forest road on the left, cross the small bridge, and make your way to your final destination before reaching the refuge, which is always open and welcoming, even in winter. Signs to Forcella del Pief and Sella Placcia are clearly marked and have been provided to help you. At this point, you have almost reached your objective. Slowly, keep travelling through the enchanted clearings, savouring the increasingly grandiose views that can be enjoyed here. Although the climb is not challenging, it is always thrilling. With just a little effort, you will soon reach Forcella del Pief, standing at 2186 m. From here, the itinerary can be viewed in its entirety as it makes its way across the gentle plateau. Keep a safety distance between you and the walls of Sass del Pief and you will soon reach Sella Placcia, located right between Sas da Pecol and Monte Pecol.
