Rifugio Bozzi and Laghi di Montozzo
An intermediate itinerary that leads to Rifugio Bozzi and the Montozzo Lakes, starting from Fontanino di Peio in the Stelvio National Park.
In the Stelvio National Park, starting from Fontanino di Peio, you can visit Rifugio Bozzi and the Montozzo Lakes.
Rifugio Bozzi, at 2,478 meters, is located in the Montozzo Basin at the southern edge of the Ortles-Cevedale massif and was dedicated to the memory of Angelino Bozzi, an aspiring officer and silver medalist who fell on the nearby Torrione d’Albiolo during the White War. Next to the mountin hut there is the small Montozzo Superiore Lake.

To reach the Montozzo Lakes, you ascend towards Forcellina di Montozzo and follow the trail markings to the right, not to confuse them with the Sentiero degli Alpini. The route is scenic and offers panoramic views of Val di Peio. Once at the plateau, you can admire the three Montozzo Lakes, nestled like pearls in the valley below Punta d’Albiolo (2,976 meters).

Along this unmarked, rocky path, you may also come across remnants from the First World War (1915-18).

For history enthusiasts, adjacent to Rifugio Bozzi you can visit a military village and explore some of the tunnels from the wartime trenches.
